I’m wondering if you could help me with my little problem. I’ll be filing with the Small Claims Court of Virginia and need to get statements from those I corresponded with while working for Girls Going Out. Would you look over this email and let me know if you think it is too long, too much information, or missing anything. The problem is that Tom thinks I should be short and to the point, “Please write a statement saying that you once heard from me.” While I think that I wouldn’t respond to such an email. I would want to know why. So, if you wouldn’t mind letting me know what I think (like I could go to hell, that’s fine).

Oh, and Tom also thinks that the last graph makes it sound like I want to cause problems with GGO and Wo! Seeing as this is a real emotional subject for me (money!) I may be missing my true intent (I really do NOT think I have any REAL ill will toward the company). Thanks.

Hi.

My name is [Delilah], and you may remember my writing to you as the Assistant Editor for Wo! Magazine in October of 2003. I am now writing for your help in a legal matter concerning Wo!. It would require only a statement on your part and no other involvement will be necessary (from what I understand of the Virginia Small Claims Court).

If you are not interested I would appreciate a reply, simply stating that you are not interested.

Over the weeks I was with Wo! I was not paid. Ms. Ashline has failed to return my calls, even after promising to do so. I have attempted to contact other employees of the magazine, but have never received a response.

Because I never heard back from any representative of Wo! Magazine, through a telephone call, email, or otherwise, I will be filing a charge with Virginia’s small claims court as soon as I have adequate documentation, including statements from those I contacted and, in some cases, met at a writer’s conference (where Ms. Ashline claimed she would make me the next editor) signed and saying to the effect that I had contacted you as a representative of the company or that Farrah had introduced me as her employee.

Going into this, I did not want to make any trouble for Girls Going Out, Wo! Magazine, or Ms. Ashline. I had looked forward to the position and was intrigued by the company. I am not asking you to boycott GGO or Wo! or to stop writing for them. I am asking for my money back, and I am asking that Ms. Ashline not be allowed to treat me, and those who follow after, this way.

I thank you in advance for your response, and hope that you are not forced into a similar situation in your careers.

Sincerely,

[Delilah]

I'm the person quoted in Mr. Leiby's Washington Post Reliable Source article, "Not the Most Popular Girl in Town." Though Farrah responded to Mr. Leiby she remembers me, she falsely states she provided me an ID# as mentioned in her response. It took me over six months to decide to join GirlsGoingOut after finding the website. I discovered soon after I paid $60.00 for membership that Farrah was one of the rudest and disrespectful business owners I'd ever met. I met several of her GGO staff (event coordinators and writers) that never received payment or respectable treatment for services delivered to GGO. I remember their pictures were posted as her staff under the “Who We Are” GGO heading. I'm glad more people are speaking out so other prospective new members know about this organization's practices before they give their money and time. I would love to get my $60.00 back for a Girl That Didn’t Go Out. Maybe my loss is a gain to others about how far GGO Girls are really Going Out!

    P.S.

I can also confirm [Del] did work for Ms.Ashline - I have an inbox full of emails [Del] sent from her GirlsGoingOut.com office email address in which she forwarded information and instructions from Ms.Ashline.

I worked for Farrah Ashline as the designer and programmer of the original version of WOMagazine.com.

My invoice (Nov 2003) remains unpaid.

I have full documentary evidence to support this statement.
  • Have those of you who have not gone to court yet thought about filing for some sort of class action? I'm not sure if the rules would allow it, but if enough of you came together to talk to a lawyer, it might be work.

I worked for Farrah Ashline as the Associate Editor of WO! Magazine and GGO back in August of 2003. I was never paid for my work, time or effort. I am in the process of filing with small claims court in Fairfax, and if anyone is interested in joining me, please let me know. My goal is that no one else gets duped by her and that those who were taken advantage of, receive justice.

I am a graphic designer that had a negative experience with Farrah Ashline as well. I am willing to share my experience if it helps towards taking legal actions pertaining to her business practices. I would like to ensure other trusting individuals do not have the same experience.
  • "In the know..."
I, too, used to work for Farrah Ashline. She never paid me. I am sure I will never see the money, either, and not, mind you, because I didn't deserve it; I suspect what is closer to the truth is that there just *is no money* to be distributed.
  • With all the coverage flying around, I hope Farrah Ashline's lawyer made sure to get his money up front.

  • Ms. Bohdel:

I have recently been made aware of your slanderous comments and have no documentation whatsover of you're EVER having been CONTRACTED out to write, submit or work for GirlsGoingOut.Com OR WO Magazine.Com. If you can produce our standard GirlsGoingOut.Com independent contract agreement, prove me otherwise. The other response from "Susan" is completely false as well. As reproach, I have contacted my lawyes and they will be contacting you shortly requesting that you remove the slanderous content immediately or that I will sue for defamation and slander which is punishable by financial damages or losses suffered to GirlsGoingOut.Com from your comments. Feel free to contact me directly with any comments,

    Respectfully,
    Farrah Ashline
  • I just wanted to add my two cents.... I'm not even sure what type of a website this is or who reads this, but I came across this after searching the internet for Farrah Ashline. Farrah Ashline is the president/ceo of Girlsgoingout.com (otherwise known as ggo) Like [Del], I also worked for Farrah. I have sued her and won although I will probably never see a penny of my money. I worked for her for nearly a month and never paid me. She is a COMPLETE liar, con artist, and fraud. I have found dozens of women whom she has done the same thing too. She simply hires people and never pays them getting them to work for her as long as she can. When they finally wisen up she yells at them and threatens them! She is a horrible horrible woman who is currently under investigation from both local and federal athorities. I urge anyone who reads this who has also been duped by her to call their local and federal agencies (like the IRS) what she is doing is HIGHLY ILLEGAL as she is not only not reporting her employees but she is not paying them or paying taxes on them. (Its the taxes that the government really cares about) Oh and by the way [Del]... you're still up on the website. (She also keep the pictures of ex-employees up on the website as long as possible, mostly without their knowledge so people think she has a reputable business without such a high turnover rate.)
  • It looks good, although from reading it, I'm unsure exactly what you're asking them for. I agree with Tom - keep it short - but I do think you should briefly outline the issue and definitely keep your last paragralph - especially the last sentence of it.
