There is nothing like New Year’s morning to make you appreciate the marvels of modern medicine. Kitties woke me up at 7, after a late…morning… Since I couldn’t go back to sleep of COURSE I spent the five hours until Tom woke playing Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando, which, aside from being a bit more buggy than the first, is the greatest game in the entire world.

I hope that your New Year’s celebrations were all as fabulous as mine, which was spent with two of my favorite people in D.C.

Christmas was good (I included the only picture I have right now, which is me in my Christmas dress. No laughing.) My dad was unfortunately in the hospital, but it was still good to see him and the rest of my family. Tom’s family took us to the most amazing Brazillian restaurant for Xmas eve, and gave me such a beautiful necklace with a white saphire. I’ve never felt so special, and included in anyone else’s family as they make me feel.

Highlights of the trip:

Tom’s step-grandmother, from Poland, exclaiming that she could “go to Alaska” when she received a new pair of sneakers as a present. I don’t know why I found it so amusing, but …well, I did.

My mother, while we ate at the Texas Roadhouse, refused to “Yip Yip Yeehaw” with the rest of the crowd.
Mom: I am not a donkey…
Me: You should never go to the Grand Canyon, then. I was remembering one of the Rangers who had us yipping about something (not at all near the edge).
Mom: Oh, if I went to the Grand Canyon I’d yell.
Me: …as you were going off the edge.

I wish my mom had laughed more over our trip. I wish we’d gotten her away from the house, the hospital, and all the visiting of family members who’ve not been very supportive. I wish for just one day we could have forgotten the things which never leave our thoughts. But, barring that, it was still a good trip.

And, finally, I’ve been considering beginning school this month instead of April, I’ll be going for a financial aid interview and tour of the school on Monday, and I’m hoping to get some good news, though I guess the news I mostly want is that I’d be able to go full time with a bunch of good loans, and I don’t think that’ll happen. Regardless, starting, even part time, is exciting.
