Read My Body

Anyone ever take CCD as a child? Do you remember the “mark of the beast?” I was reminded of it as I read this comment in 36 Tattoos by David Shields
In order to demonstrate their corporate loyalty, many Nike employees wear on their legs a tattoo of a swoosh.” It’s an interesting article.

When I was little, and in catechism class, I was convinced that they were going to be stamping your hand with the mark of the beast (a barcode) at the supermarket. I don’t know where I got this image from. It gave me this really odd fear of barcodes for such a long time. Also of checkout clerks and hand stamps.

After reading the article, I’m now convinced that if there was such a thing as the mark of the beast, Paul Booth would be the one to give it.

The article is sort of cool. I like the running commentary on words and ownership, although it seems vaguely familiar. If you know why it seems that way (was it something I read?) please let me know.

I love tattoos and have a fish on my back. I think they’re the stories that people choose to tell. And that’s my favorite thing in the world.

What do you have painted on your body?

hi there. this isn’t a comment on your entry, just a message for you. I’m broke again, so thats why i haven’t been suggesting other times for me to visit…

we’ll resume conversations when i get paid at the end of the month.

I miss you. We should arrange a meeting somewhere in the middle. Chicago? I have this urgent need to visit Chicago. I feel it would change my entire life.

Maybe I’ll hitchhike. Take my pack and my tent. Or maybe no tent. Just a sleeping bag. Sleep under the stars, rain on my face. I need…

Perhaps it’s just enough to need. The desire is what keeps you going.

I miss you, but hearing from you and knowing you’re okay is warming.

So did you eat the three donuts? Come out here and have some Krispy Kremes. We’ll eat them and stare out at the other ocean, wondering how long it takes the water to travel from one coast to the other; is it faster than we are? Does it earn frequent flyer miles?

its funny. when i was younger, people who could write as nicely as you discouraged me from doing creative writing of any sort. i just stuck to logical writing, so people wouldn’t see me failing miserably at being creative.

now you inspire me to give it my best shot.

chicago sounds like a great middle point. its one of my favorite cities, and i definately need to spend more time there than my 1st visit, which was only 3 days.
